In Ukraine
- Day of Remembrance for the Defenders of Ukraine who Died in the Struggle for Independence, Sovereignty, and Territorial Integrity of Ukraine. This date was established in 2019 by a decree of the President of Ukraine. It is dedicated to the events of August 29, 2014, when a tragedy occurred during the withdrawal of Ukrainian troops from the encirclement near Ilovaisk. The sunflower serves as the symbol for this day, as many defenders perished in sunflower fields.
International
- International Day Against Nuclear Tests. This date was established by the UN General Assembly in 2009. The date was chosen deliberately: on August 29, 1991, the Semipalatinsk nuclear test site in Kazakhstan was officially closed.
