On a summer evening, August 12, 2025, on the stage of the International Center of Culture and Arts «October Palace» there will be a real evening show - Spectacle «Flambé» - from Freedom Ballet in Kyiv!
The dance performance «Flambé» by the renowned Ukrainian collective Freedom Ballet, under the direction of the incomparable Olena Koliadenko, is a veritable explosion of emotions, leaving behind a vivid and indelible aftertaste, much like the flames that ignite a culinary dish, as its very title suggests. This erotically-ironic work, imbued with elements of realism, humour, and mysticism, deeply explores feminine desire and the intricate balance between unbridled passion and the yearning for stability.
«Flambé» is not merely a love story, but rather an emotional journey into the inner world of a woman who has dedicated her life to the culinary arts. However, here cookery serves as a metaphor for life itself, wherein the protagonist stands at a crossroads between two "flavours" of existence. One flavour is piquant, burning, uncontrolled, like the dancing flames, beckoning her to a realm without rules. This is the world of wild, untamed passion, of a past love that seemingly met its end, yet refuses to relinquish its hold. It materialises even in her bed, disrupting her peace and accustomed order.
In stark contrast lies the second flavour: refined, matured, akin to a classic dish crafted according to every rule. This symbolises harmony, order, an attempt to be an ideal wife, to live by a proven recipe. The performance masterfully portrays the protagonist’s internal conflict as she endeavours to reconcile these opposing "flavours" within her heart, traversing the boundary between a passionate past and the desire for a tranquil present. Intrigue is further added by the "neighbours," who, as often happens in life, "always know best," underscoring the realistic and ironic aspect of the production.
